As the final weeks of our smokey summer tick away, Saskatoon’s scenic river valley will once again roar to life with nostalgic sounds of the past as Rock The River returns to The Delta Bessborough gardens for its 10th anniversary as a festival.
This year’s lineup comes in hot and heavy with classic acts like Foghat, Nazareth, Trooper and Harlequin booked to deliver a healthy dose of classic rock to the hungry masses. Now ten years in, the fest has established itself firmly as one of the “must see” shows, crammed into the short hot summers our province is known for.
When asked about what concert goers can expect from Foghat during their performance, drummer and founding band member Roger Earl excitedly spoke about playing classics like “Slow Ride” but also peppering in newer songs from the band’s 2023 release Sonic Mojo - the band’s first album to chart #1 upon its release on Billboard’s Blues chart. Despite their previous successes and cult following, the weight and achievement of landing a #1 album five decades into their career is not lost on them. “We all know how fortunate we are to play in a band that's still here and to still have people caring” said Roger. When grilled on the band dynamic after decades of inevitable lineup changes and various touring iterations, Roger quipped that the key was keeping “the joy of making music visible”. Foghat will be headlining night two of the festival on August 17th.
