FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saskatoon pop punk indie scene stalwarts GreenWing are thrilled to announce the release of their new single, a reimagined take on the beloved Neil Diamond classic "Sweet Caroline," just in time for an action-packed month of shows as they hit the road for a multi-date Canadian tour.
With slamming rhythms, shouting gang vocals, and searing guitars, GreenWing makes this party favourite version of "Sweet Caroline" their own. Recorded at Rainy Day Recording Co and self-produced by the band, the single was expertly mixed by Matt Stinn and mastered by Trevor Case.
Frontman Matt Stinn shared the band’s excitement, stating, “We just thought this would be a fun little stop gap thing to do. Also, it easily wins crowds over on tour. Drunk people go OFF for this!”
But why cover such a recognizable and borderline cheesy feel-good song? The answer lies in GreenWing's expansive, arena rock treatment of the classic. While the melody and arrangement stay true to the original, Stinn’s signature pop-punk imbibed vocals inject a different energy into the track even though it's not exactly a "new" frontier when it comes to heavier bands covering older classics (*see Me First and the Gimme Gimmes). At any rate, this GreenWing take may raise eyebrows, but it’s clear that the quartet is using this release as a vehicle to amp up excitement for their upcoming tour.
