Hard to believe that we're on our eighth issue. It's also very humbling that, even though we are a small and very specific publication, artists are getting to know who we are and reaching out to us for coverage by way of feature stories, reviews or breaking news pieces. We've received CDs in the mail (thank you June Thrasher), thank you notes (thanks Katelyn), thank you emails (too many to count), received shoutouts from the EA Rawlinson stage (thanks JJ!) and now we can even say that we've been thanked during an award show acceptance speech (also huge thanks to JJ and the SCMA). When we've cold called artists they are also starting to know who we are. It's a nice feeling.
At NSMZ we have no sponsors. We are not supported by corporate dollars. We write about music because, quite plainly put, we love music! We especially love our little local scenes (five of us are in Prince Albert, one in Saskatoon and one in La Ronge). We love supporting the local indie artists and doing what we can to bring more well deserved recognition to them. Its these artists that are working very hard to keep as all sane and entertained in spite of all the other crap going on in this world.
On a side note, with the vaccines we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I look forward to meeting many of our readers when the world returns to normal (what does that even mean anymore???). In the meantime, don't hesitate to reach out if you have music related news, to say hi, to tell us we're crap... to tell us we're awesome... Pardon the pun, but we're literally an open book at NSMZ. You can find us right here: thenorthsaskmusiczine@gmail.com
As always a huge thanks and shoutout to all the artists featured within these pages and also to our loyal collective of readers. We couldn't do this without you all! Also special thanks to Will who took up some of the editing duties this month. You are a gem dude!
Sincerely,
Scott Roos
