New Release Roundup (2024-07-16)

With so much great music coming out of Saskatchewan these days it can be tough to stay in the loop. NSMZ is here to help. So saddle up, we're going to rustle up some new music right here in our own backyard; it's time for a new roundup!

1. "Another Beer" by Morgan Robertson

Small town country artist, Morgan Robertson’s latest single “Another Beer” tells the stories from a crazy summer that ended too soon. With groovy rhythms and fun melodies, it’s the perfect song to sit back and relax to this summer. The song was recorded with producer Matt Stinn at Rainy Day Recording Co. in Saskatoon.

Morgan is currently working on her debut album, so stay tuned to her social media pages for updates on that, as well as upcoming show announcements!

2. "Where's My Keys" by The Raccoons

The Raccoons are David, Jourdy, Sandy, Don, Jared, and Scott. Formed in 2020, The Raccoons released their first single 'Where's My Keys' in June 2024. The song explores the excitement, anxiety, and distractions that become unavoidable when your "head's in the clouds" at the start of a new relationship.

Fans of 'Where's My Keys' can look forward to the band's next release, 'Outside,' coming to all streaming services this July. Three future songs are in production to complete a 5 song EP for fall 2024. For more info and to keep up with the trash, The Raccoons can be found on Instagram as theraccoons_band, as well as Facebook, and at theraccoonsband.ca.

3. "Where Do You Go" by Sëdézë

Sëdézë is an Indie-Soul alternative rock band from Saskatoon, SK. Formed in the summer of 2023 the band started out as a couple friends jamming and writing songs in the forest while treeplanting. Following a busking trip across the west coast the band releases their first single “Purple Blanket” and continued to keep the ball rolling back home in the prairies.

“Where Do You Go?” Is the latest release from the band and a tune that explores the dynamics of an unhealthy or absent relationship/partner. Following the release of Where Do You Go? The band set off to Toronto to record an EP that will be released in the coming weeks. You can catch them next at Ness Creek Main Stage on Friday, July 19th, Moosefest August 10th and headlining Amigos on August 16th.

4. "Hazy Days" by Nyle Segovia

Nyle Segovia is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumental artist from the Saskatchewan prairies and Rocky Mountains of Treaty 6 and 7 territory. Nyle's roots are in flamenco guitar with significant influences from soul, rock, R&B, blues, alt, pop, and hip-hop creating a genre blend the just feels good. He plays and writes by ear and feel; always searching for genuine expression in his music.

"This song was created in a very profound moment of connecting with myself and the world around me. I had an overwhelming feeling of passion towards writing a song about a future lover that we have yet to meet. It's passionate, soulful, and an outward expression that captures some of the things I've felt navigating this complex society and dating culture. It feels like an old '60s slow dance meets contemporary alt-rock."

This song is the fourth song in a five-song EP titled 'Catharsis' coming out in August, 2024. The album features a tight four-piece band, Nyle Segovia & the Good Homies which includes Joel Bird on bass, Adam Swalm on lead guitar, and Cale Hretsina on drums. The Catharsis album is what it is because of the bond, creative freedom, and positive dynamic that the group brought.

5. "Ready For Love" by Tracy Waters

There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding this band. For instance... Who the fuck is Tracy? The song however is clearly fantastic.

"Ready For Love" is one of the original Tracy Waters songs created when they first started working together as a band at the start of the year. It has since become a favourite. Produced by Lova Lamp, it features catchy lyrics, an infectious beat and a unique blend of genres.

There you have it, a short and sweet selection of new music from local bands. Your support for local music is truly appreciated, so keep exploring and stay connected for more homegrown talent right at your fingertips.
