Hi! Hot dog Helen here. I know it can be hard to stay musically active during this pandemic. It’s hard for musicians like us when we don’t have a gig to prepare for and look forward to. But, you’re in luck, I am here to offer some tips.
First of all, I like to pretend I’m at a live show in my living room. I set up all my condiments: mustard, ketchup, and relish. I imagine I’m on stage and they’re my audience. I rock the show every time. You can do the same. It’s almost as exhilarating as the real thing.
Another thing I like to do is write songs with other musicians over zoom. You can use any other video calling service too. Call up one of your jamming buddies and get groovy. I normally call up my buddy Willie Nelson or Bob Dylan. I find it convenient because I don’t have to pack up my gear. Try it out!
Lastly, If you don’t have one already, create yourself your own jam space. Somewhere where you can feel inspired to be creative and enjoy your craft. It can be anywhere in your living space. Mine is on the deck next to the BBQ, it’s where I feel most artistic. Jazz it up and make the space your own. Don’t be too hard on yourself. These are difficult times for all of us. Although you will never be as talented as me, you are an amazing musician. The world needs us more than you think.
Stay strong,
Hot Dog Helen
