Week 2 ReCap: Dancing and Raising a Fuss

Article and Photos by Melanie Macpherson

The anniversary party continued last weekend at The Capitol Music Club in Saskatoon. Saturday night The Capitol hosted Said The Whale, a Juno Award-winning Canadian indie rock band from the West Coast, and The Great Fuss, a classic pop rock outfit with a twist from right here in Saskatoon. Stay tuned for a full review of that show coming later this week from NSMZ's Tara McDermott.

Friday night, however, was an EDM party featuring Corrupt (UK), Average Citizen, and Coka Cobra. As someone who isn't particularly familiar with EDM, (I'm not even 100% sure that's the right description), I wasn't really sure what to expect. But I wasn't in the room for more than a couple of minutes before my uncertainty fled. I was immediately captivated by a mesmerizing laser light show and the diverse and fascinating crowd of people in attendance. My camera trigger finger was itching to capture every element of this challenging new experience.

The intricate patterns and vibrant colors that danced across the venue transformed the space into a mesmerizing visual spectacle. It was a feast for the eyes and I found myself transfixed by the pulsing rhythms and dazzling display. What made the night truly memorable, though, was the crowd; a diverse mix of people, coming together to enjoy the EDM experience. The energy and enthusiasm in the room were contagious, and it was evident that everyone was there to have a great time. From the passionate dancers to the groups of friends and strangers connected by the shared experience, the crowd created an electric atmosphere filled with positive energy. I ended up enjoying the experience far more than I was expecting, and while I may not be a convert yet, I can definitely see the appeal of this sort of scene.

If you haven't made it to any of the anniversary shows yet, there's still time. Coming up this week is Parkland and Scenic Route to Alaska with Amos the Kid as well as Comedian Kelly Taylor and of course the much anticipated Evening with Joel Plaskett. Check out The Capitol Music Club on Facebook or Instagram for details about upcoming shows.
